With the Innovation Airport PAD initiative, Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport pursues the goal of creating an unique environment for the development, testing and validation of future landside, airside and terminal operations, combining innovation, climate protection and regional mobility in an holistic approach.
The airport infrastructure serves as a testbed for new technologies for future deployment at other locations.
Real Projects. Real impact.
In close cooperation with the regional research community, in particular Paderborn University and the Fraunhofer IEM, and the regional industry and business community, applications with model character are being developed. The first projects include FastGate – the automated passenger boarding bridge; the Digital Aerospace Factory for the digital mapping of the product development cycle in mid-sized aviation companies; AEM Speedport for automated aircraft manoeuvring on the apron; and AGNBA for automated baggage handling for narrow-body aircraft.

As regional airport, PAD offers global connectivity to many destinations, in particular through Skyhub PAD, an airline carried solely by the local business community, via its regular connection to the international hub Munich.

Mit der Initiative „Innovationsflughafen PAD“ verfolgt der Flughafen Paderborn/Lippstadt das Ziel, ein einzigartiges Umfeld für die Entwicklung, Erprobung und Validierung zukünftiger Abläufe im Land-, Luft- und Terminalbereich zu schaffen, wobei Innovation, Klimaschutz und regionale Mobilität in einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz miteinander verbunden werden.
Die Flughafeninfrastruktur dient als Testumgebung für neue Technologien, die später an anderen Standorten zum Einsatz kommen sollen.
Echte Projekte. Echte Wirkung.
In enger Zusammenarbeit mit der regionalen Forschungsgemeinschaft, insbesondere der Universität Paderborn und dem Fraunhofer IEM, sowie der regionalen Industrie und Wirtschaft werden Anwendungen mit Modellcharakter entwickelt. Zu den ersten Projekten gehören FastGate – die automatisierte Fluggastbrücke; die Digital Aerospace Factory zur digitalen Abbildung des Produktentwicklungszyklus in mittelständischen Luftfahrtunternehmen; AEM Speedport für das automatisierte Manövrieren von Flugzeugen auf dem Vorfeld; sowie AGNBA für die automatisierte Gepäckabfertigung bei Schmalrumpfflugzeugen.

Als Regionalflughafen bietet PAD globale Anbindung an viele Ziele, insbesondere durch Skyhub PAD, eine ausschließlich von der lokalen Wirtschaft getragene Fluggesellschaft, über deren regelmäßige Verbindung zum internationalen Drehkreuz München.
