The aviation industry currently faces major challenges, particularly in light of the need to meet ambitious national and international climate protection goals.
The development and testing of new propulsion technologies, materials, and fuels are therefore of particular importance and should offer the opportunity to view this transformation as a unique chance on the path toward achieving climate-neutral aviation.
At the Merzbrück site, Aachener Kreuz Merzbrück GmbH & Co. KG is developing approximately 80 hectares of new commercial space north and south of the airfield by 2037 for the establishment of an aviation cluster.
Thus, the Merzbrück site offers favorable conditions to establish itself as a key component of North Rhine-Westphalia’s strategic aviation strategy—alongside the planned activities in Aldenhoven and Mönchengladbach—by pooling the region’s excellent scientific and economic expertise.
The goal is to establish an innovative, future-oriented, and sustainable aviation business ecosystem in Merzbrück, designed to support both basic and applied research and development, as well as the production and marketing of aviation products and services.
North of the Aachen-Merzbrück Research Airfield, an area of approximately 19 hectares (Aero-Park 1 Merzbrück) has already been fully developed and offers attractive plots with direct access to the research airfield.
Die Luftfahrt steht aktuell vor großen Herausforderungen insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund der Einhaltung der ambitionierten nationalen und internationalen Klimaschutzziele.
Der Entwicklung und Erprobung neuer Antriebstechniken, Materialien und Treibstoffe kommt deshalb eine besondere Bedeutung zu und soll die Möglichkeit bieten, den Umbruch auch als eine einmalige Chance auf dem Weg zur Umsetzung eines klimaneutralen Fliegens zu verstehen.
Am Standort Merzbrück werden nördlich und südlich des Forschungsflugplatzes neue Gewerbeflächen in einer Größenordnung von rund 80 ha für die Errichtung eines Aviation-Clusters durch die Aachener Kreuz Merzbrück GmbH & Co. KG entwickelt.
Damit bietet der Standort Merzbrück gute Voraussetzungen dafür, sich durch eine Bündelung der exzellenten wissenschaftlichen und wirtschaftlichen Kompetenzen in der Region Aachen als ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der strategischen Ausrichtung des Landes NRW zum Thema Aviation neben den geplanten Aktivitäten in Aldenhoven und Mönchengladbach zu etablieren.
Das Ziel ist es, auf Merzbrück ein innovatives, zukunftsfähiges und nachhaltiges Wirtschaftsökosystem Luftfahrt zu errichten, mit dem eine grundlagen- und anwendungsorientierte Forschung und Entwicklung wie auch Produktion und Vermarktung von Aviation-Produkten und Aviation-Dienstleistungen unterstützt werden soll.
Nördlich des Forschungsflugplatzes Aachen-Merzbrück ist eine Fläche von rund 19 ha (Aero-Park 1 Merzbrück) bereits voll erschlossen und bietet attraktive Grundstücke mit direkter Anbindung an den Forschungsflugplatz.
